Sharing

Collaboration

Deaku lets you share workspace content (videos, images and canvases) with other creators, colleagues, connections, or anyone with a link. Sharing is controlled through a dedicated Share modal with granular permissions so you can decide exactly what someone is allowed to do with a shared item.

Opening the Share modal

The Share button is available on any video, image, or canvas inside your workspace. Selecting it opens the Share modal for that item.

The modal has three tabs: Workspace, External, and Link.

Workspace tab - share inside your team

The Workspace tab lists all the channels, direct messages, and members in your workspace.

  • Channels - Check any channel to send the item as a message card into that channel when you click Share.
  • Direct Messages - Check any DM conversation to send the item directly.
  • Members - For individual workspace members, you can choose to send them an in-app Notify alert, a DM with the item card, or both.

Workspace members always have full collaborator access to items in their workspace, so no additional permission settings are needed for them.

External tab - share with your connections

The External tab shows your Deaku connections - people you're connected with outside your workspace. You can search the list by name or username.

For each connection, check Notify to send them an in-app notification, or DM to send them the item as a message card in a direct message.

When you're sharing externally, a permissions panel appears showing what the external recipients will be able to do with the item. These permissions depend on the asset type:

AssetAvailable permissions
VideoView, Comment, Download
ImageView, Comment, Download
CanvasView, Comment, Edit

View is always on and cannot be removed. Toggle the others to suit what level of access you want to grant.

Link tab - share with anyone

The Link tab lets you generate a shareable URL that anyone - even people without a Deaku account - can open.

  1. Set the permissions you want link recipients to have (same options as above for the asset type).
  2. Click Get URL to generate the link and copy it to your clipboard automatically.
  3. The URL appears in a text box. Click the copy icon to copy it again at any time.

Once created, the link stays active. You can't currently turn a link off from the Share modal.

Note: please be aware there is always a risk that these links can be shared further so only use this for assets you are comfortable being publicly viewable.

What shared users see

When someone opens a shared item via a link or notification, they see a viewer page scoped to the permissions you granted:

  • View only - They can see the content but cannot interact further.
  • Comment - They can leave comments on videos and canvases (including as a guest, with their name, if they don't have an account). On shared images, visitors can read existing comments but can't add new ones.
  • Edit - For canvases, they can make changes to the canvas content. They need to be signed in to Deaku to edit - guests can only view.
  • Download - They can download the file.

Managing who has access

The Workspace and External tabs both show a Shared with section listing everyone who currently has direct access to the item. To remove someone's access, click the × next to their name and click Share to save the changes.

Showing media in another of your workspaces

If you're a member of more than one workspace, you can show a video or image in another of them without copying it - choose Share to workspace from the menu on the media card. See Media for how it works.

Sharing profiles

Your Deaku profile is publicly accessible at deaku.app/profile/[your username]. Anyone with your profile link can view your public profile - no sharing setup is required. Control what appears on your profile through your profile settings in Account Settings.
